Description:
In 12 short quartet pieces (suitable for recorders, viols, or a broken consort, among other instruments), Raphael B. Meyer explores the moon, shooting stars, fireflies, and other nocturnal phenomena. The composer skillfully blends the stylistic elements of the 16th and 17th centuries with soundscapes reminiscent of contemporary Nordic choral music.
The pieces are written for a low-register instrumentation (on recorders in the 4′ register with A/T/B/B or in the 8′ register with B/Gb/Sb/Sb) and thus develop a very special timbre that captivates players and listeners alike. In a gamba consort, the pieces are best performed with two alto and two bass gambas. The first part can alternatively be played on a treble gamba; a part sheet notated in octaves can be downloaded for free: Download PDF
