Description:
The vocal form of the French *Canson* evolved in Italy into the distinctive instrumental composition known as the *Canzona francese*. The anthology *Musiche Italiane* contains four-part *canzonas* by well-known and celebrated masters of their time: Luzzasco Luzzaschi, Florentio Maschera, Giovanni Battista Grillo, Giuseppe Guami, Claudio Merulo, and Pietro Lappi. All compositions in this edition can be performed on recorders, violas da gamba, in a string quartet, or with other melodic instruments. In the download section (the password is printed in the score), the alto part in octave notation for alto recorders and the tenor part in the alto clef for violas da gamba or violas can be downloaded for free.
