Hardly any other musical setting of "Panis Angelicus" has achieved as much fame as César Franck’s version. Originally composed for Corpus Christi, Franck’s composition is now also a popular staple at wedding celebrations and—separate from its liturgical context—is often performed during the Christmas season. Raphael B. Meyer arranged the hymn for an 8-part instrumental double choir (e.g., recorders, violas da gamba, or modern strings) or a mixed choir with four-part instrumental accompaniment. The score also includes a piano reduction of the second chorus. This allows the piece to be performed with just one chorus (vocal or instrumental) and piano or organ accompaniment.
