Description:
These pieces have been selected from the collection of songs and dances of the Balkans made by Béla Bartók. They appeared originally as duos for two violins (UE 10452 a/b), but they are very suitable for the recorder. This instrument is characteristic of the folk music of Southeast Europe and is still much in use there. For performance it should be noted that other recorders than the basic Treble-Tenor or Treble-Treble-Tenor can be used. This is indicated at the beginning of each piece. Small percussion instruments (drum, triangle, cymbals) might be used in those pieces with pronounced rhythms, particularly if the recorder parts are being played in ensemble. (Hans Ulrich Staeps)
