Description:
Anne Danican-Philidor came from a highly respected family of musicians in France in the 17th and 18th centuries. Philidor is an epithet that Louis XIII or XIV is said to have bestowed on one of the oldest members of this family in memory of the Italian oboist Filidori.
Anne was born in Paris on April 11, 1681. He is known as the composer of several pastoral operas, as a creator of spiritual instrumental pieces and above all as the founder of the Parisian "Concerts spirituels" (1725). He died in high esteem on October 8, 1728.
The present "SONATA pour Flute à bec" is taken from a volume published in Paris in 1712. The text of the new edition follows the first edition from the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris, with the exception of minor corrections. Additions by the editor are bracketed or engraved in smaller type.
