The 3-part vocal pieces included in this edition are taken from the collection *Songs of Sundrie Natures*, published in 1589. In it, the composer William Byrd (c. 1540–1623) presented both secular and sacred vocal works with English lyrics. In addition to the three-part songs, the collection also includes songs for four, five, and six voices.
The three-part compositions printed in this modern edition can be performed by a vocal ensemble, with recorders (SAT), by a viola da gamba trio, or with other instruments. A mixed vocal-instrumental ensemble is also very appealing.
