Description:
Ludger Vollmer's Zwei Hymnen for saxophone quartet is based on a commissioned composition which was written for the 20th anniversary of the reunification. For this occasion, Vollmer had composed a string quartet for the city of Jena entitled ...und der Zukunft zugewandt, which combined motifs from both historic German national anthems. The composer approached the subject matter lovingly and cheerfully. The melodic extract of the hymns consists of three mirrored tones - an apt plaything for a composer.
