Description:
Chanson pour Lucie (2024) was written for and dedicated to my esteemed friend Éric Colombain on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The title of the work refers to Lucie Colombain (1927–1991), a winemaker from Alsace. Three of her nephews – including Éric – decided in 2018 to breathe new life into the family's Alsatian wine production. In homage to their aunt, they named their company Lucie Colombain, and under this name they now produce excellent Alsatian wines. The wonderful wine served me as a source of inspiration for this solo piece for alto saxophone and piano, which begins gently with an Andante and leads via a short senza misura to a sonorous più mosso. After a short interruption by a cadenza, the lively mood continues until the music gradually settles down to a fine final note. Cheers, Éric! - Jan de Haan
