Description:
The Egyptian March was one of the highlights of the Vienna Philharmonic's 2026 New Year's Concert. The work was first performed on July 6, 1869 in Pavlovsk, Russia. As a special feature, the piece contains oriental motifs and a 22-bar sequence in which the musicians sing. Johann Strauss used the march to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. In 1871, Strauss dedicated this march to the Grand Duke of Baden, Friedrich I.
