El Diablo Suelto is one of the best-known works in the traditional Venezuelan repertoire and was composed by Heraclio Fernández in the 19th century. This virtuoso piece, based on the rhythm of the joropo, conveys an exuberant energy and an almost diabolical character, as the title suggests. From the very first bars, the listener is drawn into a lively, whirling rhythm. The music alternates between brilliant passages and more lyrical sections, creating rich expressive contrasts. Bertrand Moren's arrangement emphasizes the liveliness and delicacy of the original composition. It preserves the folkloristic spirit of the work and at the same time lends it a refined concertante dimension. The often ornate and fast melodic motifs require precision and agility. The overall effect is festive and passionate, in keeping with the South American tradition. El Diablo Suelto thus remains an indispensable work - at once spectacular and expressive.
