Description:
Inspired by the Canadian winter, the Winter Fantasy evokes images of snowy landscapes and typical cold-weather activities such as ice skating and downhill skiing.
After the Sonatine printanière for soprano saxophone and piano, the Scherzo estival for alto saxophone and piano and the Élégie automnale for soprano saxophone and piano (all available from the same publisher), this Fantaisie hivernale is the fourth and final piece with a seasonal theme to close the cycle.
Although it is not necessary to play all these pieces consecutively in a concert, the complete cycle of seasons offers a cohesive musical style for the audience as well as a challenge to the versatility and endurance of the performers.
