Description:
Paulo Pereira originally wrote “Licence To Thrill” as a concert opener for his funk band “Mr. Moneypenny & The Soulagents. In this medium-heavy arrangement, the funky grooves a la James Brown and "Tower Of Power" are transferred to a saxophone quintet (SAATTB) and brought to the concert stage. The piece also works very well with a quartet by omitting tenor 2. Using the staccato sixteenth runs typical of this style, you can work wonderfully on the rhythmic precision of the interaction. The notated soli for soprano and tenor saxophone can of course also serve as a basis for your own improvised solos. If you know someone who plays funky drums - go for it!
The accompanying playalong CD contains both a full version of the piece (with and without drums) and a minus-one track for each voice.
