Description:
Following in the footsteps of Gabriel Fauré, with whom he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, the French composer Gabriel Grovlez (1879–1944) had a delightful way of handling beautiful harmonies and melodic curves. In 1929, like many composers of his time, he was commissioned by the Paris Conservatoire to write a work for the oboe competition. Sarabande et Allegro was the result. In 1962, Éditions Alphonse Leduc published the version for alto saxophone and piano, which has become an essential piece for intermediate-level students.
