French composer, Michel Mériot (1928-2003) studied at the Conservatory of Poitiers before joining the band of the French Marines. He then studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won prizes for Saxophone, proving himself as ahighly competent player of the instrument. His compositions, including Sicilienne and Dance for Alto Saxophone and Piano have provded that he is also a highly capable composer. With a typical performance lasting around 3 minutesand 10 seconds, Mériot's Sicilienne and Dance is suitable for intermediate standard saxophonists. The Sicilienne contains typical characteristics of the musical style, including a 6/8 meter, dotted rhythms and moderate tempo.
