Description:
This elegy was composed in 2024 for its composer’s master’s degree recital at the Conservatoire National de Lyon. Its creation had two objectives. The first, of a compositional nature, was to combine the stylistic characteristics of the late 19th-century French romance with those of a more modern impressionism. The second, of a technical and practical nature, was to create a work suitable as the finale of a recital program: a piece that is challenging for the performer without physically exhausting them. This short composition demands great agility from the trombonist, a strong musical rapport between the two musicians, intensive work on phrasing, and a nuanced exploration of timbres through dynamics. Ultimately, impressionistic lightness was meant to triumph over expressionistic pathos.
