Description:
Holly is a short toccata for trombone. The holly (ilex) tree features frequently in medieval art and culture, symbolising eternal life; it serves as an emblem of vitality and resilience, particularly in winter and at times of hardship.
This piece was commissioned by Orichalcum (multi-instrumentalist James Stretton accompanied by Iain Jackson) who gave the first performance in Shropshire in 2011 as part of a Regional Network Tour. They have since given the music many performances around the UK and have recorded it.
Parts are included in bass clef and Bb treble clef. Holly is also available in a version for trombone and brass band.
Holly is dedicated to Holly, with affection and gratitude.
