Description:
No one knows where Honeysuckle Square is, nor is there any point in consulting maps and guidebooks. Rather, it is a place of the composer's imagination, where one may well encounter "crazy reveries".
Composed in 2019 for Vincenzo Paratore, the piece is a short and amusing divertissement that combines certain compositional styles with elements of humor: After a tentative "heroic" beginning, which resembles a march full of rhythmic slips and complexities, a second part follows in which the trombone melody, which now has a somewhat dreamy and melancholy character, is surrounded by piano arpeggios. The playing initially develops into a kind of "challenge" between the two instruments, with glissandi of overtones that come along in exuberance, followed by a trombone cadenza with majestic and dramatic tones. The finale is a brilliant and playful coda.
