With this Petite Suite, Jean-François Michel wants to encourage the musical inventiveness of budding trombonists, with stimulating subtitles and music that playfully introduces some special effects such as glissandi, mutes, blowing through the instrument. However, the three pieces (1. Caravane 2. Le Cygne [The Swan] 3. Carrousel [The Carousel] ) of this Petite Suite require stable rhythm and flexibility to give the musical phrases meaning and expression. The interactive dialog with the piano is not to be neglected and should lead to musical agreement, to the joy of playing and ... be heard. The Petite Suite ( 1. Parade 2. Berceuse 3. Marche ) for Bb trumpet (cornet or flugelhorn) and piano (BIM TP343), also by Jean-François Michel, was conceived with the same aim and the same pedagogical level.
