  • Rubric: Methods
This "Progressive Balancing" is divided into two parts: The first part is in major, the second in minor; both in turn are divided into regular and inverse flexibility exercises respectively. This method has been developed to reinforce an effective and useful "daily routine" to develop and maintain a good embouchure. The objectives that every musician pursues when preparing for a concert, a lesson or an audition are more or less the same; this method deals with these different aspects individually and develops them through the gradual balance of a good embouchure, namely: embouchure, legato, octaves, register, control and flexibility. It is recommended to start with a comfortable metronome tempo (65-70) and gradually increase the tempo to develop the overall "progressive flexibility". Dynamics have been deliberately omitted. In exercises such as flexibility studies - and therefore in flexibility itself - dynamics do not play as important a role as they usually do in music and repertoire. In addition, the musician has deliberately been given a certain amount of room for interpretation. It is recommended not to exaggerate the dynamics and to play neither too loudly nor too softly. Experience suggests that dynamic levels from mp (mezzo piano) to f (forte) or from p (piano) to mf (mezzo forte) should be preferred. In addition, the musician can customize the entire progressive flexibility routine, for example by practicing the major keys one day and the minor keys the next, or by practicing only the "regular" flexibility exercises and the reverse exercises the following day - entirely at the musician's own discretion.
