Riverside Rondo is an homage to my beautiful and dusty hometown of Riverside, California. Some of you may know that there is a campus of the University of California system there, and I grew up within earshot of the school's carillon tower. At noon, the bells play the hymn-tune "St. Anne's", more commonly known as "Oh God, Our Help in Ages Past" (composed by William Croft). You will hear this tune during the final section of the piece. Riverside Rondo is very much a "neo-classical" piece, sometimes comically so. (Listen for the "perfect authentic cadence" in the wrong key). It was written in 1991 to be the final piece of my senior recital at UC Santa Barbara. Christopher Gable
