Description:
La Sonata ("Dormi, amore, ... dormi!") by Czech composer Juraj Filas is a work of great expressive intensity, written for bass trombone and piano. In two movements - Preludio and Sonata - a wide emotional arc unfolds between intimacy, lyricism and passionate drama. The subtitle ("Sleep, my love ... sleep!"), which comes from the Italian, is reminiscent of an intimate lullaby, almost floating outside of time. The second movement is introduced by a moving motto: "Nemůžeš přestat milovat někoho, jen proto, že zemřel" "You can't stop loving someone just because they have died." This thought permeates the entire work and turns the sonata into a meditation on love, loss and memory. The bass trombone unfolds an extraordinary range of expression, dark, noble and vocal, carried by a rich and colorful piano accompaniment. Filas reaffirms his late-romantic tonal language here, rich in melody and lyrical expression. A work that is both intimate and monumental, touching in its sincerity and deep humanity.
