Description:
Tempus passent for four trombones and piano, dedicated to the Slokar Trombone Quartet, describes the colors and perceptions of the passing of time. In three contrasting movements, the work is a musical reflection on memory, the present and the future. The first movement, Yesterday, paints nostalgic timbres: Youth, light-heartedness and memories, which are also accompanied by a slight wistfulness, characterize the reflective atmosphere. The second movement, Today, is brighter and more energetic. The seconds seem to pass at breakneck speed and reflect the difficulty of truly capturing the present moment. The third movement, Tomorrow, opens the view into the unknown. It represents a break with the present and unfolds rather indeterminate, implied timbres that point to the future - a future that is characterized by both hope and doubt.
