Description:
3 Lieder für Kapellen for trumpet and organ is a three-movement work by Jean-François Michel. It was commissioned for the amateur competition La Trompette d'Or and was designed to correspond to the three age categories of the participants: the youngest played the first movement, the second category performed the first two movements, and the most advanced played the entire work. Each movement bears the name of a chapel familiar to the composer: St. Vandelin, St. Apolline and Lorette. These small sanctuaries, which he discovered on his walks, inspired Jean-François Michel to create contrasting musical moods full of tranquillity, spirituality and lyricism. Through these "songs", the trumpet enters into a dialog with the organ in a clear and expressive writing that is both accessible and musically rich. The work thus offers a progressive, pedagogical and poetic path in which every level of playing finds an opportunity to develop.
