Description:
Viktor Kalabis (1923-2006), one of the most important composers of 20th century Czech music, composed nine solo concertos for various instruments. With its subtitle "Le tambour de Villevieille", the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra op. 36 from 1973 refers to a source of inspiration for this work, which was commissioned by the French record company Erato for the well-known French trumpeter Maurice André.
The first movement is in a kind of sonata form, in which a new theme of rhythmic character appears instead of the development. The second, free movement with a short cadenza is linked to the fast final movement, with an exposed percussion solo at the transition. The work not only provides an opportunity to showcase tonal beauty, but also enables the highest level of artistry in the mastery of the instrument.
This edition is a re-edition of the composer's piano reduction published by Supraphon in 1975.
