Description:
Crusader's Hymn is one of the best known and loved hymn tunes. Of unknown origin, it was first published in 1842. The editor reported hearing it sung by haymakers in Silesia, now a province in southern Poland. "Victory" was composed by Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina (1515?-1594) in 1591. William Henry Monk adapted the work as an Easter hymn in the mid-nineteenth century. This arrangement by Percy Hall for three trumpets is characterized by independent rhythms, giving players the opportunity to practice that crucial aspect of chamber music.
