Description:
A reflection of her inscrutable attention to detail and fine musical sensibility, HUSH is Saariaho's final concerto, written for trumpet player Verneri Pohjola in 2023 and revisiting material from the trumpet part of Grahl Theatre (1994), her very first concerto. Having worked closely with Pohjola throughout the composition process, HUSH paints a portrait of his playing style including his wide and thorough use of extended techniques, pushing the technical limits of the trumpet to their max. The 25-minute concerto in four movements was commissioned by Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Festival, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Asko/Schönberg, Muziekgebouw, BBC Radio 3, Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Finnland-Institut.
