Description:
Kuks – Hexen – Aria is a sonata for piccolo trumpet, trumpet, and organ (or piano) composed in 2017 by the Slovak composer Juraj Filas. The work was premiered in August 2017 as part of the Hudební léto Kuks festival by trumpeter Marek Zvolánek and organist Pavel Svoboda. Inspired by the historic town of Kuks, known for its Baroque heritage and mysterious sculptures, this composition transports the listener into a soundscape that is at once dramatic, mystical, and deeply expressive. Through his portrayal of the "witches," Juraj Filas creates a dark and fascinating atmosphere full of tension, spirituality, and lyricism. The composition highlights the full expressive range of the piccolo trumpet and the trumpet, alternating between virtuosic passages, theatrical outbursts, and contemplative moments. The organ lends the work a majestic and almost ceremonial dimension, which further enhances its narrative character. With "Kuks – Witches – Aria", Juraj Filas has created an intense and evocative work in which the dramatic power of the music blends with the historical and spiritual heritage of this inspiring place.
