Description:
La scala solo is a composition consisting of two contrasting layers - 'two different worlds'. In order to distinguish them more clearly for the performer, I wrote each of them out separately. I recommend practising this work by first playing the material from the bottom stave only, taking care to bring out its nature, its character; then reading the notes on the top stave in the same way. Once the two'musical individualities' have been distinguished, you can try to join the two layers together, remembering to preserve the individual character of each of the melodic lines and to emphasise the contrast between them.
