Description:
The title of the piece refers to the place of its premiere, Bad Säckingen. It was there that the members of the European Trumpet Guild gathered in November 2000. Bertold Hummel was asked to compose a piece for the occasion. In it, the composer uses six trumpets from the bass trumpet to the piccolo trumpet, complemented only by the timpani. The three movements are rich in contrast; in the second movement the listener is surprised with an 'echo' of Luther's 'Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott'. In the last movement, a familiar modern melody emerges, is processed and quickly leads into a dramatic finale.
Hummel always knew how to write precisely for an occasion or a performer, to delight the audience and always remain true to his personal style.
