Description:
The composer writes about his trumpet piece: 'Shining Forth' refers to a work by the painter Barnett Newman, which was created in 1961.
It is a very austere, graphically inspired work with sparse black lines on untreated canvas. This painting is a tribute, an 'obituary', a requiem for Barnett Newman's brother, whose Hebrew first name was Zerach, which can be translated as 'to shine'.
The trumpet has taken on a special role and importance for me in recent years, both in chamber music and in the orchestra or a double concerto for two trumpets and orchestra, and it was time to create a solo work for this instrument as well. The music is very introspective in places, almost on the verge of soundlessness and silencing, with shrill cries addressing the loss of a beloved family member.
