Description:
The work Moondance was commissioned by the Summit Tuba Quartet and was composed in the spring of 1989. The four members of this ensemble, Roger Bobo, Daniel Perantoni, Harvey Phillips and Gene Pokorny, are undisputedly among the world's most famous tuba virtuosos of our time. In addition to the characteristic ensemble features, the work brings out the best in each partner. The main voice always leads the melodic lines, with solo cadenzas written for the other three voices. This seven-minute piece simultaneously exploits the harmonic, rhythmic and dynamic qualities of a group of four tubas. John Stevens
