The Spoon Bear of Beldibi for tuba and piano by composer Robert Delanoff is a work inspired by an experience that is as unusual as it is poetic. During a hike in the canyon of Beldibi in Turkey, the composer discovered an impressive rock formation that seemed to show the face of a bear. The particular shape of the rock, reminiscent of a soup spoon, and small trees that looked like hair, created an image that was both humorous and endearing. Fascinated by the almost lively smile of this natural phenomenon, Delanoff translated this impression into music. The work delicately conveys a mixture of wonder, humor and tenderness. The tuba, a warm-sounding and expressive instrument, embodies the good-natured character of this "spoonbill". The piano enriches the musical process with diverse and colorful sounds. Both instruments enter into a lively and imaginative dialog. The piece moves between playful lightness and quiet, thoughtful moments. It invites the listener to experience an almost fairytale-like nature scene. An original and pictorial composition in which fantasy and poetry meet.
