Description:
An ecumenical evening service including reading, sermon and prayer based on the model of vespers. For flugelhorn, vocal soloists, choir, band and congregation.
The music appears predominantly meditative in a pop-jazz basic tone, characterized by improvisational interplay of the flugelhorn. 10 songs form a dense arc of tension: it starts in a calmly flowing groove, reaches its climax with the Magni-cat in samba garb via archaic echoes, increasingly dense rhythms and timbres and comes to a calm conclusion in a song of blessing via a declaiming Kyrie in 5/4 time, followed by an emotional gospel psalm.
