Robert Jones

Missa festiva

Festiva - this addition to the title of a composition gives rise to expectations of the extraordinary. When the work is written by one of the most frequently performed English church music composers in this country at the moment, this expectation is particularly high. And they are not disappointed: with his latest mass, Robert Jones succeeds in creating a work that congenially combines all the advantages of his style: charming melodies, elegant conducting of all parts with a consistently pleasant ambitus, enchanting neo-romantic harmony, text-driven emotionality, avoidance of technical difficulties and, above all, a melodious sound that "carries away" and impresses performers and listeners alike.

The "festive" quality of this mass can be further enhanced by the ad libitum use of four wind instruments, but even with just organ accompaniment, nothing stands in the way of a festive church music event with this mass. We recommend this extraordinary work for a variety of liturgical settings during the church year as well as for a special concert!
