Volume 10 of the section "Songs and Choral Works" contains all of Reger's compositions for men's, women's and children's choirs a cappella (or with piano accompaniment). By far the largest part of them is taken up by the male choirs. After initial hesitation, Reger approached the male choir genre with folk song arrangements and created weighty original compositions with the collections Opus 38 and especially Opus 83, which includes a version of the Hebbel Requiem. The songs and songs for women's choir are composed for three to five voices. The three movements for one- or two-part children's choir are the only ones to have piano accompaniment. Even if the works for women's and especially children's choirs would rather be assigned to the category of 'occasional works', they are worth discovering. , Since January 2008, the Max Reger Institute (MRI) in Karlsruhe has been producing a scientific-critical edition of Reger's works (RWA). It is funded by the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and, as a hybrid edition, breaks new ground in editing technology.
