Das Laudate pueri ist zwischen 1735 und 1749 für das Ospedale degl'Incurabili in Venedig entstanden. Da es sich dabei um eine musikalische Ausbildungsstätte für begabte Mädchen und junge Frauen handelt, sind die Vokalstimmen mit Frauenstimmen besetzt. Als Kapellmeister am sächsisch-polnischen Hof zu Dresden war Hasse ebenfalls für die Kirchenmusik zuständig und bearbeitete deshalb auch Werke, die er für das venezianische Ospedale geschrieben hatte. Nachdem die Dresdner Fassung bereits in der Hasse-Werk-Ausgabe erschienen ist, wird hier nun die Originalkomposition erstmals vorgelegt.
