Pergolesi's famous 'Stabat mater' quickly began its triumphal march through Europe as a work for two soloists. Nevertheless, there are many indications that there were also choral performances quite early on. Certain movements were most likely sung by a two-part choir, while the arias were reserved for soloists.

In the present edition, the solo aria movements and No. 8 are set against the outer movements as three-part choirs (SMA), while three further movements are arranged as a trio for three individual voices. The added parts are formed from the existing musical material. They give the well-known work a completely new appeal and open it up for the large field of choral concertos.

> Arrangements for choir SMA based on the Bärenreiter Urtext
