Description:
The song "The first Nowell" (in a more modern variant also "The first Noel") is a traditional Christmas carol that is very popular, especially in English-speaking countries. The origin of the song lies in Cornwall; a first publication took place in 1823 in the collection "Carols Ancient and Modern". The present arrangement combines the traditional English Christmas carol with modern stylistic elements. The ballot crosses are deliberately chosen; the ambitus is also not excessively large, in order to make the work easier to perform, especially for school and amateur choirs. The lyrics are based on the edition "The new English Hymnal". (Florian Ilge)
