Description:
Psalms belong to the genre of poetic-religious texts that are first found in Judaism, later also in Christianity. However, there are also extra-biblical texts called Psalms. Often, liturgical pieces in the service refer to the texts of the Psalms.
The setting of psalms occupies a not inconsiderable space in Hiller's work. There are numerous settings of psalms in a wide variety of instrumentations. The present 43rd (42nd) Psalm, however, is the only one composed for male choir a cappella. In a theological sense, the 43rd Psalm is considered a continuation of the 42nd Psalm. This is made clear by the use of the same verses in both Psalms. The praying person feels persecuted by people and asks that God help him. The psalm is entitled "Judge me". (Florian Ilge)
