Description:
A center of the cultivation of polyphonic offertory settings and the multi-movement offertory concerto, which developed into one of the main genres of Catholic church music in southern Germany, was Salzburg in the 17th and 18th centuries, where Leopold Mozart was deputy conductor in the prince-archbishop's court chapel for many years. It seems obvious that the offertory was intended for Salzburg Cathedral, which is supported by the "solemn" scoring with trumpets and timpani.
