Description:
Bach's cantata for the 1st Sunday after Trinity, first performed in 1726, is one of the Thomas cantor's most musically appealing compositions. The opulent opening chorus programmatically illustrates the gesture of breaking bread in the alternating choral music of oboes, recorders and strings. The arias and recitatives for the two soloists, alto and tenor, show Bach at the height of his compositional abilities. The two-part cantata concludes with a simple chorale movement.
