Description:
Die kurze Cantate „Lobt den Namen des Herrn“ für Soli, Chor und Orgel stammt aus Rheinbergers Studienzeit am Konservatorium für Musik in München und wurde am 24.12.1853 dort uraufgeführt. Der Text ist an Psalmworte angelehnt und erinnert, wie auch die musikalische Struktur und Melodik des Anfangs- und Mittelteils, ein wenig an Mendelssohn. Den Mittelteil bestreitet ein Soloquartett ohne Orgelbegleitung, die Solostimmen können aber gut von Chorsolist*innen oder einer kleinen Chorgruppe besetzt werden. Den Schluss der Kantate bildet eine Fuge.
