Klavierauszug vom Komponisten als zentrale Quelle Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy überarbeitete seinen 'Elias' nach der erfolgreichen Uraufführung im Sommer 1846 in Birmingham grundlegend - die einzelnen Schichten dieser Revision lassen sich jedoch weniger in der autographen Partitur als vielmehr in dem parallel erstellten Klavierauszug erkennen, den der Komponist für eine gleichzeitige Drucklegung sowohl in England als auch in Deutschland weiterentwickelte. Der zweisprachige Klavierauszug enthält zum ersten Mal eine korrekte Unterlegung des englischen Gesangstextes, den William Bartholomew in intensiver Zusammenarbeit mit Mendelssohn ausgearbeitet hat.Die Veröffentlichung des Bandes im Rahmen der Gesamtausgabe erfolgte durchaus mit Blick auf die Konzertpraxis im Mendelssohn-Jahr: Kurt Masur griff bereits im Januar 2009 bei seinen Konzerten in Paris auf den neuen, quellenkritisch abgesicherten Notentext zurück.
