Description:
The cantata "Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis" was composed around 1713 and was probably performed by the composer for the first time in the same year at the Liebfrauenkirche in Halle. It was probably not assigned to the third Sunday after Trinity until a year later. The work, with its large-scale structure and strong emphasis on the biblical texts, was already successful in the 19th century and remains one of Johann Sebastian Bach's best-known cantata compositions to this day. The cantata is presented here on the basis of the "New Bach Edition" with a clear and easy-to-play piano reduction by Martin Focke.
