The "Gloria" RV 589(BA 7674) is one of Vivaldi's best-known compositions today and one of the most frequently performed sacred vocal works from the Baroque period. Vivaldi wrote the "Gloria" as an independent work - in the style of a concertante mass. However, it was probably also performed as part of a church service. The scoring of the soloists (SSA) suggests that the work was composed during his time at the Ospedale della Pietà, around 1716. In the twelve parts of the "Gloria", Vivaldi shows the full range of his mastery between festive, sublime outer movements and delicate, transparently orchestrated solo passages.

Similar comments can also be made about the "Kyrie" RV 587 (BA 8950), written for two choirs and two string groups, whose date of composition has not been definitively clarified. It is a purely choral work without solo passages. Both pieces can stand on their own, but they can also be combined together as a kind of short mass. Although the source situation for both works is clear due to the authoritative autograph, the present editions nevertheless arrive at some new assessments in the area of phrasing and performance practice that go beyond existing editions. The piano reductions by the editor Malcolm Bruno are easy to play and preserve the character of the works.
