Commissioned by St Asaph Cathedral Choir in Wales in 2017, Let us go to Bethlehem is an enchanting and gently flowing setting, based on verses from Luke 2:15, and full of joy and sparkling energy. Will Todd's extraordinary melodic artistry is evident, for example, when the sopranos' joyous melody is supported by the composer's trademark stylish harmonies in the lower voices. Homophonic sections contrast with deft interplay between the choral voices, underpinned by supportive and accessible accompaniment from the organ. An uplifting addition to the contemporary Christmas repertoire with which intermediate-level choirs will quickly come to grips.
