Description:
Franz Schubert completed the Mass in E flat D 950 in the last summer of his life. The occasion for the composition of this Missa solemnis cannot be clarified with certainty. Schubert did not live to see the premiere of his sixth mass; it was heard for the first time posthumously in 1829 under the direction of his brother Ferdinand.
The editor has paid particular attention to the articulation, among other things. In order to present Schubert's differentiated use of accents in the edition, a new mark was introduced: an accent with a flexible length. It makes it possible to precisely visualize the respective compositionally intended duration of the accentuation.
