Description:
Die Messe brève no. 7 wurde zunächst 1877 in einer Fassung für zwei gleiche Stimmen und Orgel publiziert, bevor sie 1890 mit dem Untertitel Aux chapelles in der Bearbeitung für Soli, vierstimmigen gemischten Chor und Orgel erschien.
Gounod verzichtet in seiner Messe auf die Vertonung des Credo, das von der Gemeinde selbst vorgetragen werden soll. Die für Gounods Deklamationsstil charakteristische Tendenz, Motivik eng an den Wortrhythmus anzulehnen und dem natürlichen Sprachduktus durch Rezitation auf einer Note zu folgen, ist bereits im Kyrie bezeichnend; das gleiche Verfahren verwendet Gounod auch am Beginn des Gloria.
Die Partitur enthält zugleich die Orgelstimme.
Das Werk ist auch in carus music, der Chor App, erhältlich.
