The German-Italian composer and Rheinberger pupil Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari was very successful with his comic operas at the beginning of the 20th century. His early work "Die neugierigen Frauen" premiered in Munich in 1903 and was later performed under Toscanini at the MET in New York. The fact that Wolf-Ferrari grew up with two nationalities shaped his oeuvre. The "Otto cori" for mixed choir reflect his attachment to the traditional forms of Italian music (madrigals, stornello, rispetto etc.). They are mainly based on Tuscan folk song texts. Wolf-Ferrari set his "Otto cori" about love, longing and death with humor and subtlety, with harmonically exciting nuances and in varying instrumentations. However, he also included a song in German in the collection of Italian poetry, which he had already written during his years as a student of Josef Rheinberger in Munich. Carus presents the songs in a collection - printed and digital. All songs are also available in individual editions.
