Description:
The singing of the Psalms is perhaps the most important root of Christian church music; they are very old texts with great pictorial power. In this respect, I have always tried to compose with the text and not against it, trying out each individual voice in the process of composing.
Psalm 148 is designed from the outset as a rhythmically focused work which, in its great wealth of text, couples the choir in groups in rhythmic layers one above the other, an intensive attempt to translate the extraordinarily hymnic mood inherent in the words into music. (Dorothea Hofmann)
